Chicago Fire FC News Release

Chicago (Thursday, April 11, 2002) - United States National Team Head Coach Bruce Arena called upon Chicago Fire midfielder Chris Armas and forward Josh Wolff to the 18-player roster for the squad's upcoming friendly match - the final away match prior to the 2002 FIFA World Cup in Korea and Japan - on Wednesday, April 17 at Lansdowne Road in Dublin, Ireland. The match will kick off at 1:30 p.m. CT and will be televised live on ESPN2 and via tape delay on Telemundo at 10:30 p.m. CT. Midfielder Chris Armas and forward Josh Wolff will be joining the national team for the final away match prior to the 2002 World Cup in Korea and Japan.

Armas leads all Fire players with 44 caps for the nation and has scored two goals, while Wolff has earned 15 caps scoring four goals. Both players appeared for the U.S. on Wednesday, April 2 in a 1-0 win over regional rival Mexico at Denver, CO.

"The process of selecting a roster capable of competing in the World Cup began four years ago and is finally nearing a conclusion," said Arena, who with a career record of 29-14-13 is just one win from tying Bora Milutinovic for most all-time wins by a U.S. coach (30). "Every match furthers the process for us in becoming a better team, and Ireland is a very strong opponent. We will use this match to help in making some final decisions and to continue to gauge our progress as June 5 approaches."

After playing Ireland, the U.S. will convene May 1 in Cary, North Carolina for a 10-day training camp before embarking on the Nike "Road to Korea."
