NORTH CHARLESTON, SC - The East Coast Hockey League's Greenville Grrrowl lost 4-2 to the South Carolina Stingrays Saturday. The loss dropped the Grrrowl record to 2-3 in the final game of a five-game road trip.
South Carolina's Ryan Brindley opened the scoring with a power-play goal, his 13th goal of the season, on assists from Dave Seitz and Dan Heilman 5:24 into the game, but the Grrrowl answered with just over five minutes left in the period when David Bell scored his third goal of the year, his second in as many nights this weekend, on assists from Martin Masa and Zdenek Blatny at 14:47 to make it 1-1.
South Carolina doubled their lead to 2-1 with another power-play goal, on the game's second advantage, when newcomer Matt Desrosiers notched his third goal with the Stingrays, his eighth of the season, at 9:19 of the second period on assists from Seitz and Adam Calder. South Carolina captain Brett Marietti made it 3-1 5:18 later with his 20th goal of the year on an assist by Seitz.
Roger Trudeau pulled the Grrrowl to within 3-2 with his team-leading 30th goal of the year, on the first Grrrowl power play of the contest, on assists from Sean Venedam and Simon Tremblay :24 into the third period.
Steve Rymsha of the Grrrowl was assessed a two-minute minor for slashing with less than three minutes left to play, and South Carolina took advantage. Brindley scored his second goal of the game, his 14th of the year, on the ensuing power play to make it 4-2. Desrosiers and Jeff Boulanger assisted on the goal which was scored at 17:49 of the third period and upped the Stingrays' mark on the power play to 3 for 3.
Grrrowl head coach John Marks was thrown out of the game when he left the bench to argue the Rymsha penalty following the fourth South Carolina goal.
South Carolina finished the game 3 for 4 on the power play while the Grrrowl were 1 for 3. The Grrrowl outshot the Stingrays 48-39.
