Jackson Bandits News Release
The Jackson Bandits beat the Mobile Mysticks 2-1 at the Mississippi Coliseum. The 2-1 setback was the fourth loss to the Bandits this season by that score.
Jackson jumped out to a 2-0 first period lead as they outshot the Mysticks 16-11 in the opening stanza.
Mike Oliveria opened the scoring as he broke down the left wing side past the Mysticks defense and fired a shot past Greg Hewitt at the 10:01 mark. Sean Gilliam picked up the helper on the tally.
A scrum in front of the Mysticks net led to Jackson's second goal with 3:52 left in the first period. Chris Longo pushed the loose puck past Hewitt for the two goal lead. Kory Karlander and Ryan Mougenel added the assists on the goal.
J.P. O'Connor cut the Bandits lead to one late in the second period as he deflected Josh Harrold's shot from the point past Mike Tamburro to get the Mysticks on the board. Jason Elders picked up the assist on the goal with 1:20 left in the second.
The Mysticks and the Bandits skated to a scoreless third period as the Mysticks had a couple of opportunities, including two power plays late in the period, but could not push one past Tamburro.
The Mysticks continue on the road next week as they travel back to South Carolina to take on the Stingrays on Tuesday before traveling to Greenville to battle the Grrrowl on Wednesday. The Mysticks return home to the Mobile Civic Center on Friday as they host the Macon Whoopee.
