Cincinnati, OH - In a pivotal East Coast Hockey League game, the Cincinnati Cyclones dropped a 6-3 decision to the Wheeling Nailers on Saturday night at Firstar Center.
Wheeling seized control of the game with three first period goals in a span of 2:35. Dylan Gyori had two power play goals and Mark Major scored his 24th of the season to stake the visitors to the big lead after one period.
Wheeling added tot heir lead in the second period with a goal from Chris Wells at 17:01 to make it a 4-0 game.
The teams skated a much more wide-open third period. Cincinnati scored three times with a pair of goals coming from Mike Jozefowicz and one from Allan Egeland. The Nailers, though, held on for the 6-3 win.
The loss dropped Cincinnati to five points behind Wheeling for the final playoff berth with each team having eight games remaining in the regular season.
Cincinnati takes to the road for the next two games, traveling to Reading, Pa. on Tuesday and Roanoke, Va. on Thursday. The game can be heard on 1360 Homer, The Sports Animal and live over the Internet at www.cycloneshockey.com.
