Idaho Gets Blasted 6-1 By Fresno

Friday night the Idaho Steelheads were blasted 6-1 by the Fresno Falcons in front of 6,382 fans at Selland Arena. Former Steelhead Dan Kerluke scored the game winner versus his old team as the Falcons evened their home ice record at 13-13-3. Idaho now drops to 41-14-7 on the season. The Steelheads finish their five game road trip Saturday night in Fresno. The Steelheads return home this Wednesday, March 20th to battle the Colorado Gold Kings. For tickets call 331-8497 (TIXS).

The Falcons came out smoking in the first period as Junkin scored on a rebound at 6:27 to make it 1-0. The Falcons continued their assault when Kerluke picked up a loose puck and slammed it home at 10:43 to make it 2-0. With less than a minute to go in the period Tocher scored on a wrist shot at 19:52 to make it 3-0 Fresno after one period of play. The Falcons out shot Idaho 9-1 over the final 17 minutes of the period and 10-6 overall in the frame.

In the second period the Steelheads put on a charge out shooting Fresno 14-5 in the frame, but it was the Falcons who capitalized. Frederick scored a power play goal at 3:37 to make it 4-0, then Frederick scored a shorthanded goal at 13:12 to make it 5-0 after two periods of play.

In the third period Porter scored a power play goal just 18 seconds in to make it 6-0 Fresno. The Steelheads finally got on the board when Kevin Smyth redirected one home on a shot from the wall by Dan Shermerhorn at 5:47 for the power play marker to make it 6-1. FINAL SCORE Fresno 6, Idaho 1.

Blair Allison was between the pipes for Idaho his record is now 31-10-5. Terry Friesen played very well in net to post the win and improve to 14-5-4. Idaho went 1-6 on the power play while Fresno went 3-7.
