Ebobisse Scores 16th Goal of the Season; Quakes host LA Galaxy in California Clasico next Saturday

SAN JOSE, Calif. - The San Jose Earthquakes and FC Dallas played to a 1-1 draw on Saturday night at PayPal Park. The result extends San Jose's home unbeaten streak to three matches (2-0-1).

FC Dallas took a 1-0 lead in the 16th minute. A cut-back pass by Marco Farfan found Jader Obrian at the top of the box. Obrian's first-timed shot was deflected and caught JT Marcinkowski diving the other direction.

San Jose equalized just eight minutes later. Following a handball in the box, forward Jeremy Ebobisse successfully converted his penalty kick attempt. It marked his 16th goal of 2022, tied for third-most in a single season in Quakes history and most among all players other than Chris Wondolowski.

The Earthquakes will now turn their attention to the California Clasico at Stanford Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 24, presented by Stanford Medicine. The highly anticipated event features the San Jose Earthquakes vs. LA Galaxy, a military appreciation celebration, and the region's largest fireworks show postgame. The match will kick off at 7 p.m. PT and will be broadcast live on NBC Sports California, as well as on local radio via KNBR 1050 (English), and 1370 KZSF (Spanish).

GAME NOTES

The Earthquakes currently hold a 7-14-10 record (31 pts.) during the 2022 MLS regular season.

San Jose is now 29-21-20 all-time vs. FC Dallas, including a 17-8-11 home record.

The Earthquakes are now 7-10-7 in MLS play under interim head coach Alex Covelo.

Forward Jeremy Ebobisse scored his 16th goal of the season and 43rd goal of his MLS career. His 16 goals are tied for the third-most in a single season in club history and most among all players other than Chris Wondolowski. His goal also marked his second goal of the season and of his MLS career via penalty.

The Quakes extended their home unbeaten streak to three matches (2-0-1).

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES INTERIM HEAD COACH ALEX COVELO

On starting lineup changes and tonight's performance:

"I think we looked good. The guys stepped up. I think everybody can have a chance to play and show the level that they have. We played against a good team. They made rotations and we had some players missing like Eric Remedi and rotated Cristian Espinoza. Dallas is still one of the best teams that plays good soccer here in the league, and I think we were good tonight. The team is defending every day a little bit better after the game against FC Cincinnati. We had very good moments with the ball and what we missed was to create a little bit more and arrive in the box. But I think that the guys that stepped up today did very well."

On preparing for the California Clasico at Stanford Stadium next Saturday:

"For us, the Stanford match is a special game. It doesn't matter when in the season it takes place or where we are in the standings. For us, Stanford is something different and we're going to prepare ourselves as best as we can to approach the match in the best way possible and face against an opponent who has lots of quality in its roster."

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES FORWARD JEREMY EBOBISSE

On the team's performance offensively:

"I think the group put themselves in good spots. I thought there were some good moments where we exploited spaces, on counterattacks working from the width into the middle and then trying to get to the other side of the field. Ultimately our final decisions let us down a little bit, prevented some more clear-cut chances. Some of the counter pressing that we had and the decisions that we made as we picked up the ball was probably not where I and the rest of the front line wanted to be. But, with that, we're building, given where we are at this stage in the season. You're always building towards something and to see the way that we pressured a team fighting for playoffs and how we commanded the play at times at home, I think that was encouraging and we need to take some comfort in that as we strive for perfection in the final third."

On next week's California Clasico:

"Yeah, I'm definitely looking forward to it. I heard it's the Shea Salinas game so hopefully the memories that I hear about his fun times there can continue for all of us. I'm expecting a rowdy crowd. Anytime you play against an LA team, you want to show them who's boss, so it doesn't matter what the standings look like, where we're at or where they're at, we beat them away so we know they're going to want to beat us here. They're in a tough spot in the playoff race so we're going to come correct and look to put on a show."
