FRISCO, TX, (Dec. 18, 2013) - The Texas Legends, presented by Veracruz (visit Veracruz.mx), grabbed a last second basket to steal a close match from Springfield 108-107. The Armor held the lead with seconds to go when Texas' Devin Ebanks tossed it in for the final two points of the game.
Texas hit the ground running, taking a 7-0 advantage in the first two minutes. The Armor answered immediately and the two teams tied it up for the first of nine draws of the night. Gary Forbes grabbed two free throws in the final moments of the first to take Springfield up by two. The Legends once again opened the quarter with the first strike as Micheal Eric slammed one in to tie it up, but Forbes found his hot spot and the Armor controlled the second. Forbes had 10 points in 12 minutes, but Ebanks and Ricky Ledo teamed up with 1:12 to go in the half to add 6 points and grab a 60-56 lead. The second half began a tug of war with 8 lead changes and 5 tie-ups. Ebanks used the last 24 minutes to tally 15 points, hitting a jumper with 4.6 seconds to play and grabbing the final lead 108-107.
Ebanks led the Legends in scoring and rebounds with 32 points and 7 boards, hitting 13 of 23 on the night. Sean Singletary had a game-high 10 assists and added 19 points and 5 steals. Forbes powered the Armor with 33 points and 7 rebounds, and Dennis Horner and Willie Reed combined for 40 total.
The Legends utilized their last home game of 2013 to celebrate the American Heart Association and their Go Red for Women campaign. Go Red for Women is targeted specifically at increasing awareness of heart disease, the number one killer of women. The Go Red for Women jersey night raised awareness and funds for the AHA and their mission of both researching preventative measures and instilling those measures into the daily lives of Americans. The night was made possible by Ryan, LLC who sponsored the evening and made a large donation to the Go Red initiative.
The Legends also welcomed their first honorary team member, Carlos, and his family. Carlos is 10 years old and has always dreamed of being on an organized basketball team. Before the game, Carlos was given a jersey by teammate Sammy Yeager and taken to the locker room where he got the team fired up and led them out of the tunnel. Carlos and his family enjoyed VIP treatment in a suite, courtesy of Texas Legends Care, and had his jersey autographed after the big win.
The Legends will hit the road for six games before the NBA Development League Showcase in Reno. The team returns to Veracruz Court January 11 as they host the Rio Grande Valley Vipers at 7pm for Hispanic Heritage night presented by the Tri-County Regional Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. The game will be broadcast live on television--KTXD47--and radio--KVCE 1160AM, as well as online through the NBADL's YouTube page.
