BAKERSFIELD, December 18, 2013 - Five players scored in double figures as the Bakersfield Jam (4-8) secured a home victory over the Idaho Stampede (8-1) on Wednesday night.
Bakersfield led by as many as nine points in the first quarter, thanks in part to their hot shooting (66.7%) from the field. Up 36-29 after one quarter of play, the Jam maintained the lead in the second quarter and went into the break with a 60-54 advantage. Both teams shot better than 50 percent through the first three quarters, but both struggled offensively in the final period.
The final frame resulted in a defensive battle as Bakersfield and Idaho each shot poorly from the field (Stampede-30%; Jam- 26.1%). The game remained close in the final minutes and with 40.8 seconds left in the game, Mac Koshwal tipped in a rebound to put the Jam up 98-97. On the next possession, Pierre Jackson was called for an offensive foul, which lead to Ian Clark hitting one of two free-throws. Bakersfield then showcased two good defensive stops and sealed the victory. The Jam snapped their four-game losing streak, while Idaho suffered their first loss of the season.
The Jam were led by Utah Jazz assignee Rudy Gobert (16 points, 14 rebounds, 4 blocks) and James Nunnally (16 points). Jared Cunningham, on assignment from the Atlanta Hawks, had 15 points and five rebounds, while Brian Butch posted 14 points and eight rebounds. Ike Diogu contributed 13 points and six rebounds off the bench.
Pierre Jackson led the Stampede with 31 points, six assists, six steals and five rebounds. Richard Howell had 29 points and seven rebounds, while Dee Bost posted 10 points and a game-high 13 assists.
The Bakersfield Jam will play the Santa Cruz Warriors on Friday, December 20 at 7:00 p.m. PST at the Dignity Health Event Center.
