Following the club parting ways with Matias Almeyda and his staff on Monday, the Quakes are now led by interim head coach Alex Covelo, supported by Chris Wondolowski, Steve Ralston, and Luciano Fusco as interim assistant coaches.

U.S. Open Cup Returns

Tuesday's match will mark San Jose's first game in U.S. Open Cup competition at PayPal Park since June 11, 2019. The tournament returns after being paused in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

First Time

The Quakes will face Bay Cities FC for the first time in any competition. Bay Cities FC is in its inaugural season in the National Independent Soccer Association (NISA). Bay Cities FC most recently defeated USL Championship side Monterey Bay F.C. 2-1 in the second round of the 2022 U.S. Open Cup on April 6 at PayPal Park.

Bay Area Represent

Both clubs are Northern California locals. Bay Cities FC is based in Redwood City, Calif. and plays its home matches at Terremere Field on the campus of Sequoia High School.

San Jose holds a 18-16 all-time record in U.S. Open Cup matches, including a 16-3 record against non-MLS teams.

Strong at Home

The Earthquakes hold a 5-1 record in U.S. Open Cup play at PayPal Park and will enter the matchup with a four-match unbeaten streak in Open Cup competition.

NEXT GAME VS. SEATTLE SOUNDERS FC (4/23)

How They Started

Seattle holds a 2-3-1 record in the 2022 MLS season, most recently falling to Inter Miami CF 1-0 at home last weekend at Lumen Field. Saturday's game will mark the first time the two clubs face each other in 2022.
