
LAFC Hosts Orange County SC Tomorrow, April 20 in the 3rd Round of the 2022 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup

The Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) will host the defending champions of the United Soccer League Championship, Orange County SC in the third round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup tomorrow, Wednesday, April 20. Kick off is set for 7:30 pm PT at Banc of California Stadium. (TV: ESPN+) (Radio: 710 AM ESPN / ESPN app and 980 AM La Mera Mera)
LAFC enters the match against Orange County SC with a 5-1-1 MLS regular season record with and leads the league with 16 points. Orange County enters the match up with a 1-2-2 record thus far in the 2022 USL Championship.
Tomorrow's contest will feature LAFC's third participation in the Open Cup tournament and it will also be the first meeting between LAFC and Orange County SC.
NEWS & NOTES:
LAFC remains in first place in the Western Conference with a 3-1 win over Sporting Kansas City on April 17. The Black & Gold now owns the best record in the league (5-1-1) with 16 points.
LAFC enters U.S. Open Cup play this week for the third time in Club history, and the first time since 2019. The Open Cup was not played for two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
LAFC owns an overall 5-2 record in the Open Cup, advancing to the Semifinals in 2018 and the Quarterfinals in 2019.
LAFC remains undefeated (2-0 record) against USL Clubs in the Open Cup.
The Black & Gold lost to Houston on penalties in the 2018 Open Cup Semifinals, and set an Open Cup record for attendance (17,898) in the 3-2 win in the quarterfinals vs. Portland that year. The Timbers defeated LAFC 1-0 in the 2019 quarterfinals.
LAFC is now 39-7-19 (W-L-T) in regular season MLS matches at Banc of California Stadium since entering the league in 2018. LAFC's 136 points earned at home is second only to NYCFC in that span.
LAFC forward Cristian Arango scored LAFC's first goal of the game April 17 vs. Kansas City in the 44th minute. It was his second straight game finding the back of the net. He now has two goals in 2002, and has scored 16 regular season goals in MLS since arriving at LAFC on Aug. 2, 2021. That is more goals than any player in MLS during that time span.
