San Jose Earthquakes News Release
SAN JOSE, Calif. - The San Jose Earthquakes are encouraging members of the local community to receive their COVID-19 vaccination and are hosting a fun, free event from 4-7:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 10 at PayPal Park for people looking to get their first dose.
"The Earthquakes take public health seriously and we are working in tandem with the County of Santa Clara to continue increasing vaccination levels here in our local community," said Earthquakes Chief Operating Officer Jared Shawlee. "By hosting a family-friendly event and offering unique experiences, we're hoping to provide access for individuals that have been unable to receive the vaccination up to this point."
As an added incentive for attendance, the Quakes are offering player autographs, a 20 percent discount on merchandise, an on-site food truck, and activities for children who come with their family.
"The single best thing we can all do to fight COVID is to get vaccinated," said Dr. Marty Fenstersheib, COVID-19 Vaccine Officer for the County of Santa Clara. "We're excited to partner again with the Earthquakes on a family event that makes it fun and easy to get your shot."
Oswaldo Alanis, Carlos Fierro and Eduardo 'Chofis' Lopez - all former players of Mexico's Chivas de Guadalajara - will sign autographs during the event. The three players have combined for three goals and two assists for the Quakes so far in 2021. Alanis has made 23 prior appearances for the Mexico National Team, helping El Tri win the 2015 Concacaf Gold Cup. Fierro was a key player for Mexico during their 2011 FIFA U-17 World Cup championship, scoring four goals and earning the Bronze Ball as the competition's third-best player. Chofis helped Chivas win five trophies between 2015-18, including the 2018 Concacaf Champions League, the largest club competition in this region of the world .
Families will be welcome, provided at least one unvaccinated person is receiving their first dose.
