Orlando City SC News Release
ORLANDO, Fla. - The National Women's Soccer League announced today that Orlando Pride forward Alex Morgan has been named the Player of the Month for the month of May by the NWSL Media Association. In addition, three members of the Pride have been named to the NWSL Team of the Month for May, including Morgan and teammates Phoebe McClernon and Sydney Leroux.
The leading scorer this month, Morgan tallied a goal in each of Orlando's four games to help the team to a 3-0-1 record and a first-place position in the league standings, becoming the first player in league history to tally a finish in each of the first four matches of a campaign.
Morgan, who competed in every minute of Orlando's play during the month, has delivered two game-winners for the Club throughout its current three-game win streak that includes victories over NWSL powerhouses North Carolina Courage and Portland Thorns FC, along with expansion side Kansas City.
The two-time FIFA World Cup Champion is joined on the NWSL Team of the Month by teammates Phoebe McClernon and Sydney Leroux, the latter finishing third in Player of the Month voting as well. The honor serves as the first for McClernon in her NWSL career and the first Team of the Month selection for Leroux as a member of the Pride.
A 2020 NWSL College Draft selection, McClernon played every minute of the Pride's May fixtures, recording her first professional assist on May 16 against the Washington Spirit. Leroux has found the back of the net twice for the Pride in their first four matches, delivering the deciding goal against the Portland Thorns on May 26.
The full NWSL Team of the Month can be found below.
The Pride return to action on Sunday, June 6 against the Washington Spirit with kickoff set for 2 p.m. ET on Paramount+ and iHeart Radio. Following that contest, the Pride will take a week off from match play before returning to Exploria Stadium to host NJ/NY Gotham FC on Sunday, June 20 in what will serve as the Mission Rainbow match as part of the Club's recently announced Mission Program, with tickets available at Orlando-Pride.com or by calling (855) ORL-CITY.
