Club de Foot Montreal News Release
MONTREAL - As part of the National AccessAbility Week, CF Montréal announced on Thursday the renewal of its partnership with Special Olympics Quebec and will face the Vancouver Whitecaps FC in the 2021 PLAY UNIFIED competition.
This year, the friendly and virtual competition will be played from September 7 to October 31. It will be made up of bi-weekly challenges between the members of both clubs. The results of each biweekly challenge will be compiled and the team that won the most challenges will be declared the winner of the competition.
The full roster will be composed of Special Olympics Quebec athletes and CF Montréal Academy players representing our unified partners. The names will be announced at a later date.
Since 2017, the objective of this initiative has been to offer athletes the opportunity to live a different and unique experience, while also offering additional motivation to work out and keep moving. It also offers our unified partners an opportunity to get involved in the community and become exposed to diversity. The players involved commit to a collaborative, open, and sharing experience. Other than being teammates, they will also have the role of accompanying and guiding their assigned athlete. In 2017, 2019 and 2020, the Club faced Toronto FC.
MLS and CF Montréal are committed to putting diversity, equality, and inclusion at every level of the sport to the forefront and will continue to support programs that increase accessibility to soccer to promote an active and healthy lifestyle.
