San Jose Earthquakes News Release
SAN JOSE, Calif. - The San Jose Earthquakes are aiding relief efforts following the mass shooting that killed three and injured 15 others at the Gilroy Garlic Festival on Sunday.
"We're extremely heartbroken by Sunday's tragic event and want to offer help in any way we can," said Earthquakes Chief Operating Officer Jared Shawlee. "We're deeply saddened by all acts of violence, but Sunday's shooting in Gilroy hits particularly close to home."
A silent auction will be held in the 7UP Epicenter fan zone during Saturday night's match against Columbus Crew SC, benefitting the Quakes Foundation. All funds raised will be matched by the San Jose Earthquakes and donated to the Gilroy Garlic Festival Victims Relief Fund, created in tandem by the Gilroy Foundation and Silicon Valley Community Foundation. Available at the auction are team-signed jerseys and warm-up tops, 2020 season tickets, suite tickets for future home games during the 2019 season, and a pregame on-field experience and meet-and-greet with fan-favorite defender Tommy Thompson.
A moment of silence will be held for the three victims who tragically passed away and all Earthquakes players will wear a black armband during the match. Additionally, the stadium's trio of flags will be flown at half-mast.
The Quakes will also accept donations of any size on Saturday and provide a small gift as a token of their appreciation.
