Earthquakes Partner with KNBR 1050 for Radio Broadcasts

SAN JOSE, Calif. - The San Jose Earthquakes today announced that the club has partnered with KNBR and KZSF for English and Spanish language radio broadcasts. Quakes matches will air on KNBR 1050 in English for the first time in 2017 and KZSF "La Kaliente" in Spanish for the seventh straight year.

"We are looking forward to a great partnership with KNBR 1050," Earthquakes Executive Vice President Jed Mettee said. "KNBR is one of the top sports radio brands in the country and we are happy to be a part of the station's wide array of entertaining programming. With all the great shows and live sports, it is an ideal location for fans to listen to Quakes games."

KNBR is one of America's top-rated sports radio stations. In addition to the Earthquakes, KNBR also serves as the flagship station for the San Francisco Giants and San Francisco 49ers. KNBR 1050 has also hosted The Soccer Hour, presented by the San Jose Earthquakes, every Wednesday night from 7-8 p.m. since March 2016 and also carries Stanford football and basketball.

Prior to partnering with KNBR 1050, the Earthquakes flagship station for each of the last six seasons had been KLIV 1590 AM.

"We appreciate our partnership with KLIV over the past six years," said Mettee. "They were terrific to work with and always were big supporters of the team. We wish them continued success."

The broadcast team on the radio will include Ted Ramey and Joe Cannon. Ramey will serve as the primary play-by-play voice on the radio for the fourth consecutive year, with Cannon as the color analyst for all home broadcasts.

Ramey began his broadcasting career when he was a child, working alongside his father, Hal Ramey (former voice of the San Jose Earthquakes, Oakland A's, Stanford football and basketball), at a number of different sporting events. After a lifetime around broadcasting, Ramey began his own professional career in 2009 with KNBR, working for the San Francisco Giants postgame show. Ramey also started working for both ESPN Radio and AP and later moved to reporting traffic for KCBS and KGO. He then became the morning Sports Anchor for KNBR 1050 and "The Lamont and Tonelli Show" on 107.7 The Bone in 2012. He is currently the host of the 12-3 p.m. PT show five days a week (Monday-Friday) on KNBR 1050.

Cannon is a two-time Major League Soccer Goalkeeper of the Year, who spent seven seasons as a member of the San Jose Earthquakes. He was recently elected the Earthquakes Hall of Fame. He started his Quakes career in 1999, helped San Jose win its first MLS Cup in 2001 and later captured 2002 MLS Goalkeeper of the Year honors. After a stint in France and five years with the Colorado Rapids and LA Galaxy, Cannon came back to San Jose upon its return to MLS in 2008. He joined Vancouver Whitecaps FC after the 2010 season and played through 2013 before returning to the Bay Area, where he grew up in Los Altos Hills.

KZSF is a locally-owned Spanish language station that hosts daily sports talk shows and also plays a wide variety of popular music.

Carlos Cesar Rivera returns for his 10th consecutive season as the Spanish-language voice of the Quakes and his 12th overall. A native of El Salvador, Rivera hosts a popular sports talk show from 5-7 p.m. PT Monday through Friday on La Kaliente that covers MLS, Mexican League soccer, as well as many other sports. He also anchors the morning show on La Kaliente. Rivera, who has worked in radio in the Bay Area for over 30 years, has also called games for the San Francisco 49ers, Oakland Raiders, Oakland Athletics, San Francisco Giants and the San Francisco Bay Blackhawks in his career.
