San Jose Earthquakes News Release
GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala - The San Jose Earthquakes lost 1-0 on the road against CD Heredia of Guatemala at Cemento Progreso Stadium on Wednesday.
After a scoreless first half, Enrique Miranda broke the deadlock with a blast from the top of the area in the 67th minute. After a hard tackle near the edge of the box, the ball squirted free and sat for Miranda, allowing the striker to run onto the ball and slam his shot past the outstretched hands of San Jose goalkeeper David Bingham.
The Earthquakes were the aggressors for most of the evening, but couldn't break through.
After two Group 5 matches, CD Heredia leads with six points, Montreal is next with three and San Jose is third with zero. However, San Jose has a chance to climb back into the mix with a pair of home games looming. First up is Montreal on Tuesday, Sept. 17 at Buck Shaw Stadium. San Jose will close CONCACAF Champions League group play on Wednesday, Oct. 23 against CD Heredia at Buck Shaw Stadium.
Back in MLS play, the Earthquakes close a three-game road stretch against the LA Galaxy on Saturday, Aug. 31 at the StubHub Center. Kickoff is 7:30 p.m. PT on Comcast SportsNet Plus, 1590 KLIV and 1370 KZSF.
