Earthquakes Announce 2003 Schedule

San Jose (Tuesday, January 7, 2002) - The San Jose Earthquakes today announced the regular season schedule for the 2003 MLS season. The club kicks off the season Saturday, April 12 on the road against the Colorado Rapids. The Earthquakes play their home opener a week later when they host the Kansas City Wizards on Saturday, April 19 at Spartan Stadium.

Major League Soccer has added two games to the schedule, giving the Earthquakes a total of 30 regular season games, while also stretching the MLS regular season to the end of October. The Quakes finish the season with two games against their in-state rivals the Los Angeles Galaxy. The Quakes battle the Galaxy on Sunday, October 19 on the road at The Home Depot Center, the new home of the Galaxy, and finish the regular season at Spartan Stadium on Saturday, October 25. With the lengthened schedule, the MLS Cup Championship will be held November 23 at The Home Depot Center in Los Angeles.

The Quakes fan-friendly 15-game home schedule consists of 14 weekend matches (12 Saturdays and two Sundays), and just one Wednesday night game. San Jose plays their rival the MLS Cup Champion Los Angeles Galaxy twice at Spartan Stadium on April 26 and October 25. Overall, the Quakes play 25 of their 30 regular season games on Saturday or Sunday.

Other highlights include a Fourth of July weekend game against the Chicago Fire on Saturday, July 5 and two appearances at Spartan Stadium by the 2002 U.S. Open Cup Champion Columbus Crew. The team also has two separate three-game road trips, one in June and one in August. The game times and national and local television schedules will be released at a later date.

San Jose Earthquakes season tickets for the 2003 season are now on sale. Season ticket prices for 17 Earthquakes home matches start as low as $170 for Rumble seats. The 2003 season ticket package includes 15 regular season Major League Soccer matches and two bonus matches (playoffs, special internationals, or other competitions). Season ticket prices for the 2003 season are $595 - Epicenter, $374 - Core, $229.50 - Shaker, and $170 - Rumble.
