CHARLESTON, WV - The Intimidators plated five early runs and Justin Edwards did the rest, as Kannapolis won a 5-0 ballgame on Monday night at Appalachian Power Park.

Edwards worked seven shutout innings, allowing seven hits in his longest outing of the season. Edwards (4-3) also struck out three without walking a batter.

Kannapolis jumped in front with a run in the top of the first and never trailed in the ballgame. Tyler Kuhn, who will be back in West Virginia for next week's All Star Game, doubled in Justin Greene to give the Intimidators (34-29) the early advantage.

West Virginia starter Duke Welker, who walked seven batters in a start against the Intimidators last week, lost control again in the third inning on Monday night. The right-hander walked Greene before hitting Garcia to set up a four-run frame that would give Kannapolis the room they needed.

Welker (0-7) lasted just four frames, giving up five runs, four earned.

West Virginia (24-40) threatened late, but could not spoil the shutout. Charlie Burdie walked four batters in 2/3 of an inning, but Tyson Corley got him out of trouble. Corley got the final four outs for his fourth save of the season.

It was the Intimidators second shutout in the last three days. Kannapolis kept Greensboro off the board in a 10-inning 1-0 win on Saturday night.
