Asheville Tourists News Release
(Asheville, NC) - A week after sweeping three games from the Legends in Kentucky, the Tourists hosted Lexington for three at McCormick Field, receiving a taste of their own medicine in a three-game sweep. Homeruns burned the Tourists in Monday night's finale as Lexington smashed four long balls, including two from Brian Pellegrini, his second and third homers of the series, in a 10-6 Lexington win.
Lexington grabbed the early lead in the top of the first on a two-run homer from Pelligrini, his first of the night, to put the Legends up 2-0.
The Tourists responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning on an RBI triple by David Christensen that brought Delta Cleary home, cutting the Lexington lead to 2-1.
The Legends answered back by putting up four big runs in the top of the second on RBI doubles by Jorge De Leon and Jay Austin. Austin then came around to score on a wild pitch by Asheville starter Dan Houston, giving Lexington a 6-1 advantage. Houston was not at his best Monday, allowing 8 runs (5 earned) on 8 hits over 5.1 innings, including three homeruns.
Asheville scraped across a couple more runs in the bottom of the third on Jordan Pacheco's two-run homer, his seventh of the year, bringing the Tourists to within 6-3. The teams then exchanged runs in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings, with Lexington scoring a run in each top half, and Asheville answering with a run in each bottom half. The Tourists scored on a Jimmy Cesario double with two outs in the fifth, an RBI base hit by Delta Cleary in the sixth, and David Christensen came home on a wild pitch in the seventh, making the score 9-6 at the time.
Lexington put the exclamation point on their three-game sweep with another run in the top of the eighth, and Henry Villar closed the book on Asheville, working 3.2 innings in relief to earn his third save of the year.
The Tourists (24-40) will host the Greenville Drive (35-27) for the final three home games of the first half of the 2009 season, Tuesday through Thursday. Game one will feature a matchup between Asheville RHP Ethan Hollingsworth (4-4, 3.76) and Greenville LHP Nick Hagadone (0-0, 0.00).
