Early Runs Doom 'Claws in 7-1 Loss

LAKEWOOD, N.J. -- A five-run third inning for the Hickory Crawdads was all they needed to jump out to an early lead and cruise to a 7-1 victory over the BlueClaws Thursday night.

Starting pitcher Ramon Oviedo collected his fourth consecutive loss and now has a 1-4 record in five starts with the BlueClaws. Oviedo allowed six runs- all earned- in four innings while striking out a season-high six batters. In his last four starts Oviedo has allowed 22 earned runs in his last 16.1 innings (12.21 ERA).

In the last eight losses for the BlueClaws, they have scored just 15 runs in support of their pitching staff.

The BlueClaws and Crawdads will play the second game of a four-game series to conclude the first half of the season. Lakewood will send Ervis Manzanillo (0-5, 6.23) to the mound and he will start against Hickory's Nicholas Martinez (2-2, 5.10) Friday night.
