Hickory Crawdads News Release

LAKEWOOD, NJ - The Hickory Crawdads jumped in front with five runs in the top of the third and never looked back, cruising to the 7-1 win against the Lakewood BlueClaws, before 8,000 fans at FirstEnergy Park on Thursday night.

Hickory 1B Jhonny Gomez sparked the offense with a double to left field against RHP Ramon Oviedo (L, 1-4) to start the third. After RF Chris Grayson worked a walk, SS Hanser Alberto ripped an RBI double to left-center field. As Gomez was scoring on the Alberto double, Lakewood SS Carlos Perdomo attempted to throw Grayson out at third, but fired wide of the base, enabling Grayson to score on the play as well for the 2-0 lead. With Alberto all the way at third after the miscue, 2B Drew Robinson worked a walk and quickly stole second base. One out later, LF Jeremy Williams uncorked a two-run double to left field, plating both runners to increase the advantage to 4-0. C Kevin Torres tacked on the inning's final run with an RBI single that brought home Williams and made it 5-0.

The Crawdads (36-30) added another run against Oviedo in the top of the fourth. With one down, Grayson singled his way on and swiped second base. One out later, Robinson pulled an RBI single to right field, scoring Grayson for the 6-0 lead.

Meanwhile, RHP Jerad Eickhoff (W, 7-4) was stifling the BlueClaws bats, as he logged six scoreless innings with five hits scattered and four strikeouts. RHP Nick McBride took over and dealt a scoreless seventh, before Lakewood (23-43) got on the board in the bottom of the eighth.

A one-out walk by RF Kelly Dugan started the attempted comeback in the eighth. One out later, 3B Maikel Franco worked a walk as well, putting runners at first and second base. LF Brian Pointer then drove an RBI double to left field, getting the BlueClaws on the board, 6-1.

However, Hickory stretched the lead right back out when Alberto scored from third on a wild pitch in the top of the ninth, before LHP Andrew Faulkner slammed the door on Lakewood with a 1-2-3 bottom of the ninth, closing the 7-1 win for the Crawdads.
