Modesto Nuts News Release

San Jose, C.A. - An early deficit proved to be too much for the Modesto Nuts to overcome in a 12-4 loss against the San Jose Giants on Sunday afternoon at Municipal Stadium.

Jesus Tinoco (L, 0-3) was touched up for nine runs in his two innings of work. In the first, the Giants (7-8) got to the Nuts' (8-9) starter when Jose Vizcaino, Jr. whacked a two-run double. After a strikeout, Jonah Arenado cracked a two-run single.

In the second, Tinoco uncorked a wild pitch to let a lead-off double score. A little later in the inning, Chris Shaw took Tinoco deep with a two-run homer. The Giants would open a 12-0 lead before the Nuts got a few runs back late. Collin Ferguson recorded a RBI single. Roberto Ramos crushed a two-run homer over the center field wall. Luis Jean added a tally on a RBI groundout.

Jordan Johnson (W, 2-1) was dominant in six innings of work. The Giants righty starter retired the first 11 hitters before walking Wes Rogers. The only hit Johnson surrendered in six innings of shutout ball was a single in the sixth.

After this four-game series split, the Nuts take Monday off before heading to Visalia to begin a three-game series against the Rawhide on Tuesday night. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. Coverage on ModestoNuts.com will start at 5:55 p.m.
