The Force Was Strong with Herb and Mack, Blaze Dominate
April 24, 2016 - California League (CalL1)
Bakersfield Blaze News Release
On a fun and hilarious Star Wars Day at Sam Lynn Ballpark, the Bakersfield Blaze coasted to an easy win over the visiting Lake Elsinore Storm, 8-0.
Chantz Mack and Tyler Herb (W, 2-0) were the offensive and defensive Jedi for the Blaze, with Herb somehow managing to drop his already-dazzling ERA from 1.64 down to an even 1.00.
Smart money would have suggested that no one would come close to matching Andrew Moore's seven-inning no-hit effort from Friday, but Herb nearly did. Tyler allowed a single in the 2nd inning, but nothing else over his seven frames, and left with the Blaze well in front.
Ramon Morla and Kyle Schepel finished the contest with a scoreless inning apiece.
On the slugging side, the Blaze wasted little time in picking on struggling Storm starter Thomas Dorminy (L, 0-3). A pair of hits plated a run in the 1st, and Chantz Mack took over after that early mark. Mack's two doubles scored five runners between the 3rd and 4th innings, driving Dorminy from the game, and giving the Blaze a 7-0 lead at the end of four frames.
A final run would move the contest to its final mark, to the delight of over 700 Star Wars fans and over 15 authentic characters. Even the massive wookie in attendance enjoyed the fun.
The Blaze end the series by taking three of four games from Lake Elsinore, and after an OFF-DAY on Monday, the team embarks upon a rare 10-game road trip through Southern California, beginning with three games in windy Lancaster.
Make sure to listen to every moment live at BakersfieldBlaze.com and on TuneIn Radio. Dan Besbris will have the call on the first and last series, and Dave Gascon will carry the action in San Bernardino.
The Blaze come home on May 6th for the Diamond Dig TGI Friday, presented by Jane's Jewelers.
May the force be with you all.
