Rancho Cucamonga, CA-- The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes took game three in this four-game series in blowout fashion, beating Visalia, 10-3.
The Quakes started their scoring in the very first inning, when Andrew Toles led off with a single and advanced to second after an error by pitcher Bo Takahaski,who tried to pick Toles off first base. After stealing third for his sixth steal of the year, Toles came home on a Matt Beaty RBI groundout to make it 1-0 Rancho.
Rancho Cucamonga scored two more in the fourth inning, thanks to back-to-back solo home runs from Joey Curletta and Michael Ahmed. It was Curletta's first home run of the season and Ahmed's second, making it 3-0 Rancho.
The Quakes fourth run came in the fifth inning, when Kyle Garlick doubled with one out, and came home on a Johan Meises RBI single.
Two more Quakes runs came in the sixth. Curletta led off with a single for his second hit of the game, and advanced to second on a passed ball. Then Ahmed reached on an error by the third baseman Dawel Lugo, putting runners at the corners with nobody out. Julian Leon bounced into an RBI groundout to bring home Curletta, making it 5-0 Rancho and putting Ahmed at second base. After a passed ball allowed Ahmed to get to third, he scored on another RBI groundout, this time by Toles, which make it 6-0 Quakes after six innings.
The Quakes completed their scoring in the eighth, when they scored four runs. Leon doubled with one out, and Mejia singled to put runners at the corners. Toles doubled to bring both Leon and Mejia home to put Rancho ahead 8-0. Tim Locastro then reached on an error by second baseman Henry Castillo, and Toles was able to score on the booted ground ball to put the Quakes in front 9-0. Rancho Cucamonga went up 10-0 after Beaty singled home Locastro.
Rancho Cucamonga totaled 15 hits in the win against Visalia, and everyone in the starting lineup recorded a hit with the exception of Locastro.
Visalia scored all three of their run in the ninth inning off of Bubby Rossman, who allowed the first five base runners in the inning to reach.
Andrew Sopko (1-0) picked up the win for Rancho. He went six innings, and allowed just three hits and no runs, while striking out five. Luis De Paula pitched a scoreless inning out of the Quakes bullpen, and Rossman surrendered three runs in two innings.
Bo Takahashi (0-1) takes the loss after giving up three earned runs on four hits in four innings of work. Nick Baker allowed three runs (two earned) in two innings out of the Rawhide bullpen, and Miller Diaz struggled by giving up four earned runs in just one inning of work.
