Mack's Homer Not Enough, Blaze Fall 4-2
April 24, 2016 - California League (CalL1)
Bakersfield Blaze News Release
Double plays were most unkind on Fireworks Saturday night, and though the Bakersfield Blaze posted two late runs, too many early rallies fell short, and the pitching of the Lake Elsinore Storm prevailed in a 4-2 final.
After thoroughly dominating the Storm on Friday night, Lake Elsinore turned the tables, leading from end to end. In the top of the 1st, the Storm got a pair of doubles to take a 1-0 lead on Anthony Misiewicz (L, 0-2) and the Blaze, and they continued to add throughout the night.
Lake Elsinore posted another solo run in the 4th for a 2-0 lead, and one inning later, a four-hit, two-run rally pushed Bakersfield down by four. The Blaze bullpen was solid in defeat, with Isaac Sanchez, Kody Kerski and Kyle Hunter going four scoreless.
Meanwhile, Storm starter Dinelson Lamet (W, 3-0), who came into this one hot, continued with a dazzling effort, going six shutout innings, striking out nine.
The Blaze had their chances, putting a baserunner aboard in every inning besides the 2nd, but three double play grounders limited their rally efforts.
The Blaze on the board in the 9th when Chantz Mack slugged a mammoth shot to dead center with Tyler Marlette aboard, cutting the deficit to just two, but Colby Blueberg retired the final batter to get the visitors the win.
The Blaze lead the series now two games to one with a chance to win the series tomorrow.
The series concludes on Sunday with a high noon start on Star Wars Day. The Blaze will feature more than 15 characters from the franchise, and fans are encouraged to wear their Star Wars gear to the game.
