Early Lead Slips Away in 6-4 Loss

MANCHESTER, NH - The Binghamton Mets failed to preserve an early three-run lead and lost to the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, 6-4, on Tuesday night at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium. Jayce Boyd collected four hits, including a home run and a pair of doubles, in Binghamton's fourth consecutive defeat.

For the first time in four games, the B-Mets cracked the scoreboard first. Boyd started the charge with a one-out double in the second off New Hampshire starter Matt Boyd. A wild pitch pushed Boyd to third and Wilfredo Tovar came through by bouncing a two-out RBI single up the middle.

Binghamton continued to feast on Boyd in the third. After Kevin Plawecki started the frame with an infield single, Matt Clark ripped the first pitch he saw over the right-field wall for a two-run homer. Clark's blast, his team-leading seventh of the year, gave the B-Mets a three-run cushion.

The Fisher Cats returned serve in the bottom of the third. With two speedy runners aboard and one out, New Hampshire shortstop Andy Burns ripped a double down the left-field line. The two-bagger brought both Jon Jones and Jon Berti home and cut Binghamton's lead to one.

The B-Mets chased Boyd from the game in the fourth. Tovar kicked off the inning with a double and Matt Reynolds ended the lefty's day with a single to left, putting runners at the corners. Richard Bleier took over and induced Kevin Plawecki to line into a double play to end the threat.

New Hampshire grabbed the lead for the first time with a pair of runs in the fifth. With Jones on first, Berti laced a double to the right-field alley. Jones scored from first, narrowly beating the throw home. Berti advanced to third on the play and came home with the go-ahead run on a sac fly from Burns.

Trailing by one, Binghamton wasted little time knotting the game back up. Boyd started the sixth inning by depositing an 0-1 pitch from Bleier over the right-field fence. Boyd's wall-scrapper, his first home run at Double-A, tied the game at four.

The tie did not last for long. Mike McDade greeted Robles with a leadoff double in the sixth. Two batters later, Michael Crouse pulled a double down the left-field line, plating McDade with the go-ahead run and ending Robles' night. New Hampshire tacked on another run in the seventh against reliever Cody Satterwhite.

Bleier bounced back from Boyd's home run and retired the final six B-Mets he faced. Scott Gracey took over in the eighth and worked around a two-out single to post a scoreless inning. The righty walked Tovar to start the ninth, but put down the final three B-Mets he faced to nail down his second save.

Bleier (2-3) put down ten of the eleven batters he faced to collect his second win of the season. Robles (1-1) allowed five runs on seven hits over 5-1/3 innings in his first loss as a B-Met.

The B-Mets (14-14) conclude their three-game series against the Fisher Cats on Wednesday morning at 10:35 AM. RHP Greg Peavey takes the hill for Binghamton against RHP Casey Lawrence. The Horizons Federal Credit Union Pregame Show begins at 10:20 AM on ESPN 1360 WYOS.

POSTGAME NOTES: Matt Clark's homer snapped a five-game homerless stretch for the B-Mets...Cody Satterwhite had his season-opening scoreless streak snapped at 17-2/3 innings...the B-Mets are back at .500 for the first time since they were 2-2 (April 6)
