Early Flurry Carries River Otters to 4-2 Victory Over Outlaws

December 26, 2004 - International Hockey League 2 (IHL 2)
Missouri River Otters News Release

An early three-goal outburst carried the Missouri River Otters to a 4-3 victory against the Kansas City Outlaws Sunday afternoon at the Family Arena.

The River Otters dominated the first period, putting three pucks behind Outlaws goaltender Maxime Gingras. The first goal came off the stick of Chris Bell, who took a drop pass from Justin Quenneville and sent a wrister behind Gingras. The goal extended Bell's point streak to seven games. The Otters extended the lead ten minutes later when Lars Pettersen took a tremendous pass from Bob Rapoza and slid a backhander between the pads of Gingras for his sixth goal of the year. Barrie Moore made it a 3-0 game a few minutes later when he beat the Outlaws goaltender with a shot from the right face-off circle.

The lone goal of the second period came early, as the Outlaws converted on a power play. Mathieu Descateaux found a wide-open Jimmy Callahan in front of the net, and while Otters goalie Kevin Reiter stopped Callahan's first shot, his second attempt slid through the five-hole.

Kansas City made a game of it with a goal seven minutes into the final period. Steve Yetmen sprung Scott Kirton on a breakaway with a great pass, and Kirton rifled the puck between Reiter's pads. That was as close as the Outlaws got, however, as Quenneville added an empty netter to seal the Missouri victory. Reiter made 16 saves to pick up his ninth victory of the season.

The Otters travel to Muskegon to take on the Fury, Tuesday, December 28 at the Walker Arena. The puck drops at 6:30 CST, and all the action can be heard on KSLQ 104.5 FM and the B2 webcast at www.riverotters.com.
