Quad City Mallards News Release

Moline, IL - The Fort Wayne Komets squandered any hopes of post-holiday cheer for the Mallards as they defeated the ducks by a score of 4-2 in front of 3,917 at The MARK of the Quad Cities Sunday afternoon.

The Komets drew first blood 6:28 into the contest when P.C. Drouin snuck a shot through the pads of Mallards rookie netminder Robert Gherson (26 shots, 23 saves). Fort Wayne would make it 2-0 2:32 later on David Hukalo's sixth goal of the year.

In the second period, Fort Wayne would increase their lead to three on a goal from Jonathan Goodwin.

The Mallards would make it interesting early in the third. A.J. MacLean lit the lamp for his third goal of the season with help from Mike Kompon and Drew Otten. Just 50 seconds later, Jason Deskins fired home his team-leading tenth goal of the year to cut the Komets' lead to one. With 1:46 remaining, the Mallards would add an extra attacker as they pulled Gherson from goal. Fort Wayne would take advantage at the 18:41 mark as Drouin slapped the puck into the gaping net to seal the victory.

The Mallards are back on home ice on Thursday night against Fort Wayne. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. at The MARK of the Quad Cities. The first 3,000 fans through the gates will receive a "Kometko" Voodoo Doll courtesy of Jumer's Casino Rock Island. Tickets are still available at The MARK box office or via phone at (563) 326-1111.
