Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
BOSSIER CITY, LA - The Fort Wayne Komets scored three goals on their first six shots and led all night on their way to a 5-3 win over Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs Friday night at the CenturyTel Center. The âBugs now stand at 22-18-2 heading into tomorrow night's rematch with Fort Wayne at the CenturyTel Center.
Jamie Milam netted a pair of powerplay goals in the contest, while Shane Hart notched the other tally as the Mudbugs came back to within one goal during third-period after falling behind 4-1. The Komets' five goals came on just 15 shots as the âBugs finished the night with a 26-15 shot advantage.
Fort Wayne jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Colin Chaulk stole a puck at the Komet blueline and scored on a clear-cut breakaway to open the scoring less than four minutes in. The Komets extended the lead to 2-0 with a powerplay goal as Derek Patrosso deflected in a point shot from Michael Ratchuk at 11:46.
Mitch Love looked to help his teammates regain momentum soon after, squaring off with Fort Wayne's Kaleigh Schrock in a fight at center ice. The âBugs then got on the board with just 23 seconds remaining in the period as Jamie Milam blasted his ninth goal of the season inside the post on the powerplay to put the deficit at 2-1 after 20 minutes.
Fort Wayne took the two-goal edge back early in the second when a long slapshot from Bobby Phillips found its way into the top corner to make it 3-1. John DeCaro was then relieved in goal by Brian Foster for the Mudbugs, who missed on three powerplay chances in the second stanza and trailed by a pair heading into the third.
P.C. Drouin scored during a 2-on-1 break 2:17 into the final period to put the Komets on top 4-1 before Bossier-Shreveport began to comeback. Hart buried a nice back-door feed from David Rutherford to get the âBugs back within two at 12:38. Then with just over one minute left and the extra attacker on, Milam sent a wrister through traffic for his second powerplay goal of the night to get the Mudbugs within one at 4-3. The equalizer failed to come however, as Dan Lapointe's empty-netter with half a second left sealed the Komets' 5-3 win.
John DeCaro stopped three of six shots in nearly 22 minutes before being replaced by Brian Foster (8-9-1), who was tagged with the loss despite turning aside seven of the eight shots he faced. Kevin Reiter (4-8-1) finished with 23 saves for Fort Wayne. The Mudbugs scored on 2 of 7 powerplays, while the Komets converted 1 of 3.
The same two teams will complete a back-to-back set at 7:05 pm tomorrow night at the CenturyTel Center on "Hometown Heroes Night", when we recognize the men and women of local law enforcement agencies, fire departments and others who serve our local communities every day.
Mini-plans and group ticket packages for all home games are available now through the Mudbugs office at 752-BUGS. Individual tickets are on sale through Ticketmaster at 318-741-9700, online at www.ticketmaster.com or at the CenturyTel Center main box office.
