Giosa, Mallards Roll Past Evansville 5-1

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (January 28, 2011)- Eric Giosa's hat trick helped propel the Quad City Mallards to a 5-1 win over the host Evansville IceMen Friday night.

The Mallards ripped off five unanswered goals after falling behind early. The IceMen were on the power play when Nicklas Lindberg's blue line blast was deflected past Mallard goaltender David Brown to give Evansville a 1-0 lead at 2:52 of the first period.

The Mallards bounced back later in the first by scoring twice in 39 seconds. Mike McLean pounced on a rebound to tie the score at one at 12:16. At 12:55, Giosa put the Mallards on top from point blank range.

Quad City struck for two more goals in the second period to stretch the lead to 4-1. Tyler Shelast broke a 0-for-29 Mallard power play drought by tipping in McLean's shot at 5:40 of the second. At 17:16, Giosa wristed home Brandon Marino's drop pass from the slot for Giosa's second goal of the game.

Giosa completed his hat trick and capped of the Quad City win by burying Obi Aduba's layoff from the slot at 14:51 of the third period. Aduba and Marino collected three assists apiece.

The Mallards Friday night were without defenseman Shane Lovdahl, who has been granted leave by the CHL.

The Mallards return to action at home Sunday at 4:05 p.m. against the Missouri Mavericks. Sunday's game is the Mallards' final Family Day of the season presented by APAC Customer Services, Inc., and Mix 96. Fans can purchase four tickets for Sunday's game, four hot dogs and four soft drinks all for just $34. After the game fans can bring their skates and join the Mallards on the ice in a post-game skate. Also after Sunday's game, fans will have the chance to meet all of their favorite Mallards at the team's post-game party at Van's in Davenport. Van's is located at 3333 North Harrison Street.

Tickets for Sunday's game- and all Mallards regular season home games- are available in person at the i wireless Center box office, at Ticketmaster outlets, through www.ticketmaster.com or through Ticketmaster charge-by-phone toll free at 1-800-745-3000. The ticket office is open Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and on game days other than Sunday from 10:00 a.m. until the end of the first period. On Sundays on which the Mallards play at home, the ticket office is open from 1:00 p.m. until the end of the first period.
