Early Barrage Clinches Series Win for Revs

(York, Pa.) - The York Revolution scored eight runs in the first three innings, icing it early to beat the Sugar Land Skeeters 9-4 on Sunday afternoon at PeoplesBank Park. The win gives the Revs (15-9) four series victories in a row and puts them two games up on the Skeeters (13-11) in the Freedom Division.

Micah Owings (1-1) earned his first pro win since 2014 with three relief innings of one-run, five-hit ball. He walked one and struck out three on 60 pitches. Ian Marshall (0-3) lost his second game against York this season after giving up six runs on seven hits in two innings.

After the Skeeters broke the ice on Kent Matthes' RBI double in the top half of the first, Jason Repko got the York bats going with a leadoff single off the Arch Nemesis. After a popout and a couple walks loaded the bases, Repko sprinted home on a wild pitch to tie the game. Joel Guzman followed by tapping a single into left to give the home side the lead. Bryan Pounds then banged a double off his own face on the LED board in right center, plating one more to make it 3-1.

The hits kept coming in the bottom of the second. Michael Rockett led off with a double, then after a groundball and a walk, Andres Perez singled to right to score Rockett. Telvin Nash knocked a base hit to load the bases, then Guzman again delivered with a two-run single to give the Revs a 6-1 lead.

Sugar Land got one back in the top of the third on Matthes' RBI single, but York padded its lead in its half of the third on sac flies by Rockett and Isaias Tejeda.

The Skeeters made it interesting in the top of the sixth as Andy LaRoche led off with a double and scored on a Rick Hague sac-bunt-turned-error. Another run eventually came home on a passed ball to make it 8-4, but Ricardo Gomez came on with two on and two out and induced a Matthes groundout to end the threat.

From there, it was all Revs relievers, who retired the final 10 Sugar Land hitters in order. Gomez handled a 1-2-3 seventh and Ty'Relle Harris was perfect in the final two frames.

Perez put the final nail in the coffin in the bottom of the seventh, singling home Repko to give the game its final margin.

Guzman went 3-for-5 and drove in three runs for the second straight game. Perez finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs of his own, while Repko, Nash, and Keith Castillo also had two-hit performances.

Matthes went 2-for-5 with his Atlantic League-leading 17th and 18th RBIs of the season. LaRoche had three hits, including two doubles.

Mike McClendon started the game for York and pitched two innings, allowing a run on three hits.

Notes: The win gives the Revs just their second home series victory over Sugar Land in team history, the first since taking three of four June 18 through 20, 2012. With the wind gusting in from left field, York went without a home run for the first time since May 1, snapping a franchise-record 12-game homer streak. With a double in the seventh, Isaias Tejeda is now on a nine-game hitting streak, batting .528 (19-for-36) since May 4. York opens a seven-game road trip with the first War of the Roses matchup of the season in Lancaster at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Kelvin De La Cruz will take the hill for the Revs against Bryan Evans of the Barnstormers.
