Eagles Overcome Scorpions Friday Night

[ LOVELAND, Colo.]-The Scorpions troubles in Loveland continued, with a 4-2 loss to the Eagles. New Mexico remains one point behind Odessa in the battle for the third seed in the Southern Conference.

The Scorpions appeared to score the game's opening goal. Konrad Reeder took a rebound shot that seem to have crossed the goal line. Colorado goaltender Sebastian Laplante reached behind him, and according to the officials grabbed the puck before it fully crossed the goal line with 16:34 left in the first period.

Colorado responded a few shifts later with a power play goal. Ryan Tobler got his stick on an initial shot from Greg Pankewicz at the 7:19 mark of the opening period. The lead grew to two when Riley Nelson received a back door pass and put a wrist into the net.

New Mexico got on the board when they went to the power play. Dylan Row found a rebound and an open net at the 13:29 mark.

The Scorpions knew they had to win the second period and they did. Row scored his second goal of the game making it 2-2.

The Eagles came out and capitalized on a couple of Scorpions mistakes in the final period. Pankewicz scored the game winner 2:49 into the final frame. Nelson added an insurance goal with his second tally of the game six minutes later.

The Scorpions busy weekend continues Saturday night against Rocky Mountain. Tune into 610 The Sports Animal to hear the game live or watch it free on the CHL Network starting at 6:05 p.m. when the Rage hosts the Scorpions.

New Mexico returns home on Tuesday, March 18th to face the Arizona Sundogs. Come see the Scorpions take on their rivals. The Sundogs currently sit three points ahead of the Scorpions for first place in the Southwest Division.

The final regular season home game is Saturday, March 22nd when Amarillo visits the Santa Ana Star Center. It will be "Fan Appreciation Night" with a chance to win $10,000 in cash, airline tickets or a beautiful safe filled with prizes.
