CHL Awards Release Schedule Announced

March 14, 2008 - Central Hockey League (CHL) News Release


The Central Hockey League (CHL) released today the dates that the year-end awards winners, the All-CHL Team and the All-Rookie Team will be announced. The announcements will begin on Monday, March 17th and continue through Monday, March 24th with the announcement of the CHL's Most Valuable Player.

The MVP Award will be decided between the league's four top scorers and the goaltender with the most wins in the league. The candidates are Arizona's Alex Leavitt who leads the CHL with 107 points (34-73=107) Laredo's Jeff Bes (43-57=100), New Mexico's Konrad Reeder (34-58=92) and Rocky Mountain's Brent Cullaton (20-68=88). Bossier-Shreveport's John DeCaro leads the league with a 1.72 goals against average, a .938 save percentage, 10 shutouts (a CHL single-season record) and is tied for the league lead with 24 wins. The CHL single-season records for goals against average (1.80 by Tyler Weiman with Colorado, 2004-05) and save percentage (.938 by Weiman in the same season) are both in jeopardy with just over a week remaining in the regular season.

CHL's Man of the Year

Friday, March 21st

CHL's Most Outstanding Defenseman

CHL's Most Outstanding Goaltender (Scott Brower Award)

Monday, March 24th

CHL's Most Valuable Player

The CHL has nine days remaining in the regular season with the Ray Miron President's Cup playoffs scheduled to begin Monday, March 24th.
