March 14, 2008 - Central Hockey League (CHL) News Release

For the fourth consecutive poll, the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs have been voted the top team in the CHL Coaches Poll. Bossier-Shreveport (41-12-5) has already clinched the Northeast Division and is close to earning the number one seed in the conference for the upcoming playoffs. The defending Governors' Cup champions have a six point lead over Laredo in their quest for back-to-back regular season championships. The big movers in the recent poll were the Texas Brahmas who moved up from #10 to #5. Texas is 22-5-1 in their last 28 games and has climbed up into a Northern Conference playoff spot. The biggest slides came from Odessa who dropped from #7 to #10 and the Rocky Mountain Rage who fell from #2 to #4. The Jackalopes ended a five-game losing streak on Thursday night with a 4-1 win over Rio Grande Valley.

The Mudbugs received 15 of the 17 possible first place votes with Laredo receiving the other two first place votes (teams cannot vote for themselves). The lead for the Mudbugs over the second ranked team is the largest of the season at 27 points (was 18 points in the previous poll released on February 29th). Laredo improved by nine points, Colorado moved up 22 points and Texas climbed 54 points. The Northeast Division has all four of its teams represented in the poll with the Mudbugs #1, the Brahmas #5, the SteelHounds #7 and the RiverKings #8.

Balloting for the CHL Coaches Poll is done by the 17 CHL Head Coaches. The CHL Top 10 Coaches Poll is released at the beginning and the middle of each month throughout the season. Each first place vote receives 10 points, second place earns nine points, etc. The final coaches poll of the season will be released on Wednesday, March 24th.
