Hounds Stay in Playoff Position with 3-2 Win over Loredo

YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO - The Youngstown SteelHounds defeated the Laredo Bucks 3-2 at the Chevrolet Centre on Friday night. The Hounds (35-19-5, 75 points) will at least hold onto the fifth and final playoff position with the win. The 35th victory of the season sets a new franchise record for most wins in a season.

The Bucks struck first as Jeff Bes scored 44th of the season with a power play goal at 3:52 to make it 1-0. Jason Baird scored his 13th of the season (12th with Youngstown) at 9:02 to tie it at one. In his first game for Laredo this season Chris Stanley scored at 13:21 to give the Bucks a 2-1 lead after one period.

In the second period Steve Birnstill scored on the power play at 16:34 to tie the game 2-2 after 40 minutes of play. In the third period Petr Pohl scored a power play goal at 9:17 to make to give the Hounds a 3-2 lead. Youngstown was 2-5 on the power play while the Bucks were 1-6. Andy Franck did the rest making 17 saves on 21 shots to preserve the victory for the Hounds.

Youngstown out shot the Bucks 21-19 for the game. The 19 shots is the least allowed by the Hounds this season.
