LOVELAND, Colo. -The Colorado Eagles (34-18-0-3) fell in a shootout, but picked up a point in the standings, scoring one goal on 41 shots against the Alaska Aces (25-22-3-2) Wednesday night at the Budweiser Events Center.

The Aces started the scoring 5:03 into the game as forward Chris Francis beat Eagles netminder Clarke Saunders underneath the blocker from the mid slot to put the Aces up 1-0. Less than two minutes later, Eagles forward Nathan Moon finessed a saucer pass past a would-be Aces defender, giving linemate Brock Nixon the breakaway, which he buried blocker-side past Alaska netminder Troy Redmann to tie the game at 1.

After scoreless second and third periods, the game headed to overtime, where neither team could register a goal. In the shootout, Alaska took an early lead and would not relinquish it, with Alaska forward Tim Coffman sealing the Aces victory on the second shootout attempt, beating an outstretched Saunders on the backhand.

Both goaltenders stood out on a night where the teams combined for 72 shots, with only two goals being registered before the shootout. The Eagles remain in first place after their victory, with Ontario and Idaho hot on their heels.
