Brampton Beast News Release
BRAMPTON, ON - The Brampton Beast announced today the acquisition of 24-year-old forward Brett Lyon from the Allen Americans in exchange for Steven Tarasuk.
Lyon, a native of Grand Forks, British Columbia, has recorded nine points (three goals and six assists) and 226 penalty minutes in 38 games with the Americans this season. Currently in his third year of professional hockey, Lyon has spent time between the ECHL and AHL, including stints with the Utica Comets and Abbotsford Heat for a total of 13 AHL games. During that time, Lyon also accumulated 32 ECHL points (9 goals, 23 assists) and 593 penalty minutes in just 135 ECHL contests. The feisty forward attended the Chicago Wolves' AHL training camp this year after totalling an impressive 19 fighting majors in 53 games last season.
"I like to play a fast, physical game at both ends of the ice," said Lyon after being acquired by the Beast. "I've also never lived in Ontario before, so I'm excited to be in the GTA and experience that area of Canada."
Prior to turning pro, Lyon spent 4 years in the Western Hockey League with the Kamloops Blazers, Vancouver Giants, Moose Jaw Warriors and Kelowna Rockets. During that time, the gritty forward scored 21 goals and 41 assists in 224 games while collecting 606 penalty minutes.
"Brett has shown that he brings an element of size and toughness to his game every time he steps on the ice," said Beast President and General Manager Cary Kaplan. "We believe he will have a very positive impact on the team in the home stretch."
Lyon joins the Beast on their current two-game southern road trip, and will suit up this Friday against the Wichita Thunder. Lyon will return home with the res of the Beast on Friday, March 6 at 7:30 PM for Star Wars Night at the Powerade Centre, with Beast players wearing unique Star Wars jerseys that will be auctioned after the game. The fun continues on Sunday, March 8 with fans having the opportunity to meet their favourite Brampton Thunder players on Women's Hockey Day beginning at 2:00 pm.
