Eagles Edge Wranglers 5-3 in First-Ever Meeting

Las Vegas, Nev. - In a shooting battle until the very end, the Las Vegas Wranglers fell 5-3 to the Colorado Eagles after meeting for the first time in the regular season.

Las Vegas kicked off tonight's game with a mid-period power play goal from center Adam Miller. With assists from forward Eric Lampe and left wing Judd Blackwater, the score went up 1-0 with 12:23 left in the first. Less than four minutes later, Lampe notched a goal of his own at the 10:54 mark, bringing the Wranglers up 2-0 over the Eagles at the end of the first.

Wranglers goaltender Joe Fallon was able to hold Colorado scoreless for the majority of the second period until Eagles forward Riley Nelson cut the lead in half with a goal at 18:20. Assisted by defensemen Aaron Schneekloth and Jake Marto, the second period ended with a 2-1 score and Las Vegas still in the lead.

Just 51 seconds into the third period, Wranglers forward Ryan Weston got a goal on Eagles goaltender Kyle Jones and put Las Vegas up 3-1. Colorado quickly began securing goals of their own midway through the period. Forward Chad Costello scored the second Eagles' goal of the night, assisted by forwards Michael Forney and Akim Aliu, and forward Pat Knowlton picked up the game-tying goal with assists from Marto and forward Steve Haddon at 11:52.

The game remained tied 3-3 for a few short minutes until Colorado forward Jack Combs recorded the game-winning goal at the 15:12 mark with defenseman Jon Landry on the assist, putting the Eagles in the lead 4-3 for the first time in the game. With Fallon pulled to give the Wranglers a one-man advantage, Aliu collected his second point of the night with a literal last-second empty-net goal at 19:59, making the final score 5-3 in favor of Colorado.

Las Vegas looks to even the series with a win against the Eagles tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. The full box score can be found here .
