Aces Fall to Grizzlies 3-2

Mitch Wahl broke a 2-2 tie late in the third period to lead the Utah Grizzlies to a narrow 3-2 victory over the Alaska Aces on Friday night from the Maverik Center in West Valley City, Utah. The loss was the first for Alaska this season, dropping their record to 5-1, and snapping their season-opening, five-game winning streak. The Aces stay in Utah to complete the short road trip on Saturday night, before returning to Alaska to host the Bakersfield Condors on Wednesday, November 2. The Aces opened the scoring for the sixth straight game when Chase Polacek score on a broken-stick, one-timer 2:09 into the contest on a power play. The puck found its way through traffic and trickled underneath Andrew Engelage to make it 1-0 Aces. Utah tied the score at 15:18 when Jeff LoVecchio banked a shot from behind the net off of Aces defenseman Russ Sinkewich and into the net to make it 1-1. The Grizzlies outshot the Aces 15-4 in the period.

Neither team scored in the second period as Utah outshot Alaska 7-6 in the period. The teams remained tied 1-1 heading into the final frame.

The Aces claimed the lead again early in the final frame when Bryan Miller scored a power play at 1:45 from the left circle. The goal put Alaska in front 2-1, but Utah quickly responded. Mitch Fadden tied the contest at 2-2, just 45 seconds later to erase Alaska's advantage. The Grizzlies then took the lead on the eventual game-winning goal 15:15 of the period.

Gerald Coleman (5-1) took the loss, making 35 saves on 38 shots, and Andrew Engelage (4-1) made 15 saves on 17 shots for the victory. The Aces power play went 2-2, while the Grizzlies went 0-4. Alaska was outshot by Utah 38-17 in the game.
