Express Fall to Wings 3-1

Hoffman Estates, IL - The Chicago Express, proud member of the ECHL and proud affiliate of the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets, fell the the Kalamazoo Wings 3-1 on Friday at the Sears Centre Arena. Kalamazoo was led by a 31 save effort from goaltender Riley Gill.

The Express were put into an early hole at 6:44 when Wings F Patrick Asselin wristed his own rebound over the outstretched glove of G Rob Nolan. 30 seconds after the Asselin goal, Express D Nathan Lutz and Wings F Justin Taylor got into a scuffle behind the Chicago goal that seemed to up the physical tempo for the rest of the contest. The period ended with the Wings ahead by the same 1-0 score.

Kalamazoo extended their lead to 2-0 at 12:20 in the second period when F Eric Kattelus scored his first goal of the season on a one-on-one in which he passed the puck to himself and snapped a shot between Nolan and left pipe. Despite the deficit, Chicago held a 21-19 shot advantage through two frames.

Kalamazoo wasted no time tacking on another goal early in the third period at 3:46 when D Joe Sova took a pass off of the faceoff from F Dean Strong and fired in a slap shot from the point to add some cushion their lead at 3-0. It appeared as if Wings G Riley Gill was going to knock away everything that came his way all night but Chicago was able to break the shutout with a goal at 13:48 by C Aaron Marvin, his second on the season. Marvin found a rebound and slipped a shot over a sprawled out Gill to cut the deficit to 3-1. F Tim Spencer and F Bobby Robins earned assists on the goal.
