Eagles Bow out vs. Reign, 4-2
April 29, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Colorado Eagles News Release
ONTARIO, Calif. -The Colorado Eagles (3-4-0-0) saw their season come to an end, falling to the Ontario Reign (4-3-0-0), 4-2, Tuesday night at Citizens Business Bank Arena.
For the second night in a row, the Eagles started the scoring mid-way through the first period. Forward Kyle Kraemer picked up a clever drop pass from linemate Taylor Vause before sniping Colorado into the 1-0 lead with 5:51 remaining in the first. Just under three minutes later, Reign forward Matt White evened the score at one on a rebound goal after Ontario hit a post.
With 8:13 remaining in the second, Eagles netminder Clarke Saudners couldn't swallow an Ontario shot, and forward Norm Ezekiel put the Reign in the lead, 2-1 off of the rebound. Ontario forward Everett Sheen capitalized on the momentum, leading the Reign on a 3-on-1 rush, firing a point-blank shot past Saunders to give his team the 3-1 advantage with 3:58 left in the second frame. The Reign weren't finished in the second, 92 seconds later White scored on a one-timer and put Ontario ahead 4-1. Colorado wouldn't go quietly into the night, however. Kraemer continued to be the bright spot in the Eagles' offense, as he fired a power-play goal home with 12 seconds remaining in the second, taking his squad into the second intermission down 4-2.
Netminder Jacob DeSerres entered the game in relief of Saunders at the start of the third period, and would stop all six shots fired his way.
A scoreless third period yielded a series victory for the Ontario Reign, who will face the Utah Grizzlies in Round Two. The Eagles season comes to an early end, but not without a fight.
