Eagles Beat Gorillas 4-2, Win 10th Straight at Home

LOVELAND, CO- The Colorado Eagles won their 10th straight game at the Budweiser Events Center Saturday night 4-2 over the Amarillo Gorillas. Four different Eagles scored and three goals came while on special teams, Colorado scored their league-leading 15th shorthanded goal of the season. Bill Vandermeer had both of Amarillo's goals and had four in two games vs. Colorado. Tim Boron made his third start for the Eagles this season and played well saving 33 of 35 shots and not allowing an even-strength goal. The Eagles improved their record to 15-4-0 and they lead the Northwest Division by four points over the Oklahoma City Blazers. Colorado has six days until their next game when they play the Rocky Mountain Rage in Broomfield on Friday December 15th.

The Eagles did not have a scoreless first period in their first 16 games, however they have done so in two of the last three contests. Colorado and Amarillo skated to a scoreless first period however the Eagles controlled the pace of play out shooting Amarillo 23-10 in the period. The 23 shots matched their season high for shots in a period and is second all-time in Eagles history. Tim Boron made his third start for the Eagles, first at home, saving all 10 shots he faced.

Seth Leonard scored the first of two power play goals in the second period for Colorado when he took a feed from Scott Polaski and beat Gorillas' goaltender Shawn Conschafter. It marked Leonard's first point in seven games with the Eagles and fifth goal of the season. Colorado earned a full five-on-three advantage late in the period and only need 19 seconds on the power play to take a 2-0 lead. Ryan Tobler tipped in a Brad Williamson shot for Tobler's eighth point in the last four games and third goal in the last two. The Eagles out shot Amarillo 12-10 in the period and again held to their scoring ways in the second period, Colorado has out scored their opponent 38-19 in the second period this season.

Less than one minute into the third period, the Eagles took a 3-0 lead on Riley Nelson's 12th goal of the season when he took a pass from Garrett Larson and beat Conschafter low on the stick side. Colorado made it 4-0 on their 15th shorthanded goal of the season when Chris Hartsburg tapped in the puck that got past Conschafter. Riley Nelson assisted on the play, his fourth shorthanded assist of the season and 10th point while a man down, he leads CHL in shorthanded points. Amarillo earned a full two minute five-on-three later in the period when Ryan Tobler went to the box along with Les Borsheim who was given a five-minute major and game misconduct. Bill Vandermeer scored not once, but twice while Amarillo was on the power play to cut the Eagles lead to 4-2. Colorado clamped down and did not let the Gorillas get any closer as they won their 10th straight game at the Budweiser Events Center.
