Mississippi RiverKings News Release

SOUTHAVEN, MS --- Dan Wildfong scored the game winner 1:01 into overtime to lift the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs to a 3-2 win over the Memphis RiverKings Saturday night at the DeSoto Civic Center. By picking up the point via the overtime loss, the RiverKings increased their lead in the Northeast Division to two points with second place Youngstown dropping a 6-3 decision in Oklahoma City. The RiverKings next play Tuesday at Tulsa.

The RiverKings came back twice from one goal deficits to tie the game in the second period. The first deficit was created midway through the first on Joe Ori's one timer of a draw in the RiverKings zone. The first period ended with a 1-0 Mudbug lead.

Jason Sessa scored for the fifth straight game 1:45 into the second to even the scoreboard at a goal apiece. The goal was Sessa's team leading 11th of the season and was also his team-high fifth power play tally. Jason Tessier and Louis Dumont assisted. The five game goal streak matches a career high for Sessa, who also has at least one point in six straight games.

Bossier-Shreveport reclaimed the lead at 2-1 just under 10 minutes later when Chris Gustafson snuck the puck past RiverKings netminder Larry Sterling from a wide angle along the right side boards. The RiverKings responded with their second special teams goal of the night at 16:46 of the second to again tie the score. Travis Banga started a two on rush with a take-away at neutral and slid a pin point pass to Ryan Campbell from the right wing. Campbell put it past Bossier-Shreveport goalie Ken Carroll for his ninth goal of the season, his second short-handed.

A physical, scoreless third period gave way to the overtime session. Wildfong's goal to end the game came off a corner feed by Forbes McPherson and rebound from his initial shot.

Carroll was the winner with 24 saves on 26 shots while Sterling was tagged with the OTL, stopping 25 of 28 Bossier-Shreveport shots. The Mudbugs used a combined 16-2 shots advantage in the third and overtime periods to finish with a 28-26 edge in shots for the game.

The RiverKings' record now stands at 12-4-3 entering a three game week next week. Bossier-Shreveport improved to 10-9-3 and is within four points of the first place RiverKings with Memphis having three games in hand.
