Youngstown SteelHounds News Release
To call it a shootout at the "OK Corral" is an understatement as the Hounds drop to the Oklahoma City Blazers 6-3 in a game that saw 40 penalties for 132 minutes.
This game started out normal, as Jared Dumba would put in a shorthanded goal at 17:21 to make it 1-0 Blazers after one period. The second period would see Youngstown storm back as Brad Patterson would score his second goal in two nights and his fifth of the season to put the Hounds back in business with a 1-1 tie. Mike Burgoyne would score his first goal of the night at 11:08 on the power play to make it 2-1 Blazers. Jeff Christian who had three points on the night (2g-1a) would get his first of two goals on a pretty shorthanded backhand to tie the game and then would score again on the power play to give the Hounds a 3-2 late in the second and extend his point scoring streak to seven games as well as put him in a tie for the league lead in points (38) and assists (26) with fellow line mate Chris Richards. The power play goal while the first in 11 periods (1-10 for night) would not stand as Dallas Flaman knocked one past Brad Roberts with under a minute to play to tie the game at three after two periods.
The third period saw pure chaos to say the least. Mike Burgoyne would get two more goals (10 goals on year) to give him and OKC their first hat trick of the season. That was sandwiched by a Peter Robertson goal that put the game out of reach.
The game may have been over but the fireworks were just starting as in a penalty filled game Paul Esdale would get sandwiched by two Blazers that led to an all out brawl. The goalies got ejected for fighting at center ice. All in all the Hounds would be down a man 11 times giving up three goals in a loss that snaps Brad Roberts eight game streak of not losing in regulation.
The SteelHounds are now 10-6-5 with 25 points and they are now two points back of first place Memphis in the Northeast division. Youngstown will have almost a whole week to lick their wounds in Oklahoma, as they will not play again until Friday night at 8:35 when they take on the Tulsa Oilers. All games are available on ESPN Radio 1240-The Fan and steelhounds.com.
