Bucks Fall 2-1 In Rio Grande Valley

LAREDO, Texas - The defending CHL President's Cup Champion Laredo Bucks fell 2-1 to the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees at the Dodge Arena on Saturday night. The Bucks three game win streak came to an end, but they are 12-7-2 and remain in first place in the Southeast Division with 26 points. Laredo hosts the Killer Bees on Sunday at the LEC at 4 p.m. It's the Whataburger Christmas Kickoff with the first 2,000 fans getting Bucks Santa hats courtesy of Whataburger. Fans can get four tickets, four hot dogs, and four sodas (a $100 value) for $48. The Bucks are offering a family four pack of season tickets for the 2006-07 CHL regular season, which works out to just over $7 a seat per game and is a 48 % savings off walkup prices. Rio Grande Valley struck quickly as forward Bill Newson got loose on a breakaway and scored on a backhander at 2:52 for the only goal of the first period.

In the second the Bucks had a pair of power play chances to the Killer Bees one, but neither team could score.

Early in the third period the Killer Bees added to their lead as forward Matt Rogers swept home a rebound at 1:35. The Bucks put on a furious charge late as forward Jeff Bes found defenseman Adam Rivet for a wrist shot from the slot at 16:36 for his seventh of the year, cutting the lead in half. Laredo had several chances down the stretch, but couldn't get the tying goal. FINAL SCORE Rio Grande Valley 2, Laredo 1.

Kevin Reiter stopped 30 of 32 in his Bucks debut, but took the loss and is 0-1-0. Former Bucks goalie Jeremy Symington stopped 31 of 32 shots and improved to 8-1-0. Laredo was 0-6 on the power play while the Killer Bees were 0-4. The Bucks and Rio Grande Valley each had 32 shots on goal.
