ROUND ROCK, Texas - The offensive fireworks continued to be on full display at Dell Diamond on Monday night as the Round Rock Express (3-0) topped the Oklahoma City Dodgers (0-3) by a final score of 6-5 to improve to a perfect 3-0 on the year. A night after blasting five home runs in a 15-6 victory, Round Rock added four more longballs to the season ledger on Saturday.
E-Train RHP Drew Anderson (1-0, 0.00) collected the win after 3.2 shutout innings of relief. The righty allowed just two hits while striking out five. Round Rock starter LHP Joe Palumbo allowed three runs, only two of which were earned, on four hits and two walks while striking out four in 2.1 frames. For the Dodgers, reliever RHP Ryan Moseley (0-1, 11.57) suffered the loss following a performance in which he gave up three runs on four hits and a walk in 2.1 innings.
Round Rock faced its first deficit of the 2021 season in the top of the second inning as Oklahoma City RF Andy Burns collected a leadoff single before 2B Carlos Asuaje stepped to the plate and launched a two-run homer. Express 1B Curtis Terry took matters into his own hands in the bottom of the frame, lining a 436-foot home run to deep left-center field to narrow the gap to 2-1.
In the third, OKC LF Zach Reks doubled before ultimately scoring on a fielder's choice. However, the E-Train leveled the game in the fourth thanks to back-to-back bombs by Terry and DH Carl Chester. An inning later, the home run parade continued as C John Hicks singled prior to a two-run shot off the bat of DH Elier Hernandez that gave the Express a 6-4 lead.
An inning later, CF Leody Taveras added a critical insurance run with a sacrifice fly that scored 3B Yonny Hernandez, who had previously walked, stole second and moved to third on a wild pitch.
The Dodgers attempted to mount one last comeback in the top of the eighth inning. Asuaje worked a leadoff walk, then SS Elliot Soto singled to put runners on the corners. Following a one-out RBI single off the bat of C Hamlet Marte, Reks grounded out, leaving just enough time for Soto to race home on the play, trimming the gap to 6-5.
E-Train RHP Hunter Wood retired the final five batters of the game to preserve the victory and record Round Rock's first save of the 2021 season. The Express also ripped off six stolen bases in the contest, matching an all-time franchise record for steals in a game, a feat accomplished three other times, but not since May 16, 2014.
Round Rock looks to continue their hot start to the year in Sunday afternoon's matinee against Oklahoma City. Express RHP Sam Gaviglio is scheduled to get the start up against Dodgers RHP Aaron Wilkerson. First pitch at Dell Diamond is set for 1:05 p.m.
Single game tickets as well as full season and mini season membership plans are on sale now. For more information about the Express, visit RRExpress.com or call (512) 255-2255. Subscribe to the E-Train email newsletter and keep up with the Express on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter!
