Dynamo host defending champion Columbus on Saturday in 2009 MLS opener

HOUSTON, TX (Friday, March 20, 2009) - The Houston Dynamo will kick off their 2009 Major League Soccer season tomorrow with their opening game against the defending MLS Cup champion Columbus Crew at 7:00 p.m. at Robertson Stadium.

The Dynamo finished second to Columbus in the MLS Supporters' Shield standings for the league's best overall record last season, and the teams split their two meetings, including a 2-0 Houston win at Robertson Stadium. The Dynamo lead the all-time series 2-1-3.

The game features two of the top goalkeepers in Major League Soccer. Houston's Pat Onstad, at 41 the oldest player in the league, led MLS in goals against average for the second consecutive year in 2008 with a 1.03 mark. Onstad is also the career MLS goals against average leader at 1.07. Columbus goalkeeper William Hesmer finished third in 2008 at 1.14.

The Dynamo will be without defender Eddie Robinson (injury) and forward Kei Kamara (suspension), while Columbus is expected to miss forward Pat Noonan (injury) and midfielder Adam Moffatt (injury).

The Houston Dynamo are a Major League Soccer franchise that has won two MLS Cup championships in its first three seasons and represented the United States in three consecutive regional championships.
