Sacramento River Cats News Release

Salt Lake City, Utah - An offensive explosion led by shortstop Isan Díaz, which included a season-high eight-run third inning, fueled the Sacramento River Cats (45-61) to a 16-9 victory in Tuesday's series opener at the Salt Lake Bees (51-55).

Díaz, who finished a homer shy of the second cycle in River Cats' history, wasted no time, tripling off the first pitch of the game by Salt Lake righty Davis Daniel (3-5). Five pitches later, Díaz scored on an RBI groundout by first baseman Jason Vosler.

After falling behind 3-1 in the bottom of the first, the River Cats bombarded Daniel for eight runs on six hits, two walks, and two errors in the third. Designated hitter Jason Krizan knocked in his first of three runs to give Sacramento a 4-3 lead. Up 5-3 with the bases loaded and one out, Díaz doubled down the left field line to clear the bases. Two batters later, he scored on a Vosler single.

Díaz got Sacramento to double digit runs in the River Cats' three-run fifth, plating right fielder Drew Jackson with a single for the first run of the inning.

Sacramento broke the game open in the seventh with three-straight RBI hits. Third baseman Ford Proctor and catcher Andrew Knapp hit back-to-back RBI singles before Krizan doubled home two to make it 16-5.

Left-hander Sammy Long made his first start for Sacramento since being optioned by San Francisco on Aug. 3, striking out one while allowing three runs on three hits and three walks in 2.2 innings.

Lefty Enmanuel De Jesus (4-3) threw a strong 1.1 innings in relief, striking out two.

All nine River Cats starters reached base and scored a run, three had three hits (Díaz, Vosler, and Knapp), and four had multi-RBI games (Díaz, Vosler, Knapp, and Krizan).

Righty Wei-Chieh Huang (0-2, 6.89) will try to repeat his last start with a win on Wednesday. He'll take on lefty Adam Seminaris (0-1, 6.75) at 5:35 p.m. (PT). Listen to Johnny Doskow call the game online at rivercats.com or on the MiLB First Pitch app.

Additional Notes

Right-hander Randy Rodriguez, the Giants' No. 12 prospect on MLB Pipeline, struck out one in a scoreless inning for his River Cats debut.

Righty Michael Stryffeler, who was acquired by San Francisco at the deadline, pitched another scoreless inning, giving him 3.0 since joining the River Cats.
