Today's Game: The Oklahoma City Dodgers continue their series against the Round Rock Express at 7:05 p.m. at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. The Dodgers look to snap a three-game losing skid and avoid opening a series in an 0-2 hole for the first time since July 4-5 against Las Vegas in OKC.
Last Game: The Round Rock Express scored six runs in the seventh inning in an 8-5 win against the Oklahoma City Dodgers Tuesday night to open a six-game series between the teams at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. The Express took the first lead of the game on a solo home run by Nick Solak in the third inning. The Dodgers responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 3-1 lead with a RBI single by Michael Busch, RBI groundout by Jason Martin and RBI single by Tomás Telis. The Dodgers remained in the lead until a six-run seventh inning put the Express back in front, 7-3, including a go-ahead three-run home run by Josh Jung. The Express scored five of the six runs with two outs. A RBI single by Ryan Noda in the bottom of the inning trimmed the lead to three runs before the teams exchanged sacrifice flies to close out the scoring.
Today's Probable Pitcher: Jon Duplantier (4-3) makes his sixth start looking for his first win since early June...Duplantier last pitched and started Aug. 4 in Salt Lake and was charged with the loss in OKC's 8-7 defeat, allowing eight runs (five earned), along with a career-high 10 hits, including two homers. He did not issue a walk and recorded five strikeouts over 3.0 innings. The eight runs also tied his career high, which he allowed for a second straight game...Since the All-Star Break (3 G/1 GS), Duplantier has allowed 19 runs (14 ER) and 20 hits over 8.1 innings. Opponents are 20-for-49 (.408) with six home runs, and he's allowed two homers in each of the three games...Duplantier moved into the starting rotation in mid-June and he is 0-2 in his starts, although the team is 3-2...Right-handed batters are hitting just .190, but lefties are hitting .312...Duplantier was selected by the Dodgers from the Giants in the minor league phase of the Rule 5 Draft Dec. 8, 2021 after he had signed with the Giants just four days prior as a minor league free agent...He was selected in the third round of the 2016 MLB Draft by Arizona out of Rice University...Duplantier has made four appearances, including one start, against the Express this season, going 2-0. Over 9.0 innings, he has allowed five runs (four earned) and six hits, as well as two walks with 10 K's. He has held the Express to a .176 AVG.
Against the Express: 2022: 12-7 2021: 16-13 All-time: 158-128 At OKC: 73-64 The Dodgers and Express meet for their fourth of five series this season and first since late June...The Dodgers took each of the first three series by 4-2 margins, and the teams most recently played a six-game series at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark June 21-26...Through the first 19 games of the season between the teams, Miguel Vargas has a team-best 28 hits and 19 RBI. Vargas and Ryan Noda each have four home runs...The teams had a wild first series in Round Rock May 10-15, which OKC won, 4-2, winning four straight games in the middle of the series. OKC recorded its largest shutout win in the team's Bricktown era (since 1998) with a 19-0 victory May 12 and Yefry Ramírez became the first OKC Dodger and first pitcher throughout the entire PCL to throw a nine-inning shutout since 2018. Six different players homered in that same game for the first time in the team's Bricktown era. In series finale May 15, OKC lost a game when scoring at least 13 runs for just the fifth time during the team's Bricktown era and for the first time since 2007, as Round Rock won, 14-13...The Dodgers have won five of the last six season series between the teams...Tonight the Express look for consecutive wins against the Dodgers for the first time this season.
Small Slide: Despite losing three consecutive games, the Dodgers lead the PCL with a 62-44 record and have a 2.5-game lead ahead of second-place El Paso, which has won five of the last six games. The Dodgers' three straight losses are their most since losing a season-high five games to open July, and although this is the fourth time this season the Dodgers have lost at least three consecutive games, only once has the skid reached four games...The Dodgers are 1-4 in the last five games following a stretch of nine wins in 11 games immediately following the All-Star Break...The Dodgers have the most home wins in the PCL with 34 and their 34-21 home record is second best in the league behind El Paso's 32-19 mark.
Drew Dat: Drew Avans extended his on-base streak to 45 games with a walk in his first plate appearance Tuesday and also stole two bases. Avans owns the longest active on-base streak in the Minors and the longest on-base streak by an OKC player during the team's affiliation with the Los Angeles Dodgers (since 2015). Avans has now reached base in 59 of his last 60 games and his 45-game on-base streak is the longest in the PCL since 2018 and the longest by an OKC player since Joe Sclafani reached base in 45 straight games July 4-Sept. 1, 2014. No OKC player has had an on-base streak longer than 45 games during the MLBAM era (since 2005), and Avans owns one of five on-base streaks of at least 45 games recorded this season in the Minors. The last PCL player with an on-base streak longer than 39 games was Nashville's Nick Martini, who reached base in 66 straight games during the 2018 season...From the start of the season through May 31 (31 games), Avans batted .235 (20x85) with seven extra-base hits, eight RBI and 15 runs scored. Since June 1 (54 games), Avans is batting .308 (65x211) with 13 doubles, five triples, three homers, 21 RBI, 27 walks and 45 runs scored. During that span he ranks tied for second in the PCL with five triples, third with 65 hits, as well as tied for third with 45 runs and 18 stolen bases...His eight triples are tied for first in the PCL overall this season, while his 25 total stolen bases are sixth-most. It's the most stolen bases by an OKC player since Micah Johnson had 26 in 2016.
On the Mend: Edwin Ríos continued his Major League Rehab Assignment Tuesday, going 3-for-5 with a run scored. It's his third overall three-hit game this season, last accomplished May 26 at Arizona. Ríos has now hit safely in seven straight games, going 10-for-29 with four doubles, and owns the longest active hitting streak by an OKC player. He was initially placed on the Los Angeles Dodgers Injured List June 3 with a right hamstring injury and was transferred to the 60-day IL June 22.
May Day in August: Dustin May made his fourth start with OKC on Major League Rehab Assignment Tuesday and completed a season-high 5.0 innings. He allowed one run and three hits, with one walk and a season-high eight strikeouts. He faced 20 batters, throwing 68 pitches (45 strikes)...In his last three games with OKC, May has allowed two runs and seven hits across 12.0 innings, with two walks against 20 strikeouts. The home run he surrendered last night was the first in his OKC career (41.1 IP).
The Rundown: Dodgers opponents have scored 20 runs over the last two games combined for the most runs allowed by the team in two consecutive games since July 4-5 against Las Vegas in OKC when the Dodgers also allowed a combined 20 runs...The six runs scored by the Express in the seventh inning yesterday also marked the second straight game an opponent scored six runs in an inning and the eighth time this season an opponent has scored six or more runs in an inning. The last OKC opponent to score six runs in an inning at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark was the Las Vegas Aviators, who scored eight runs in the fourth inning July 4 during a 12-4 win. Not surprisingly, the Dodgers are 1-7 in the games they've allowed an inning of six-plus runs, and the one victory occurred in a game the Dodgers were leading 14-2 at the time of the six-run inning...In each of the last two six-run innings, the opponent has scored five runs with two outs. Over the last 18.0 innings pitched, opponents are 11-for-29 (.379) five homers and 15 runs with two outs. Three of the five homers - including Jake Gatewood's walk-off homer in ninth inning Saturday and Josh Jung's go-ahead, three-run homer in the seventh inning last night - have been with two outs and two strikes...The Dodgers are 10-6 since the All-Star Break. In the 10 wins, they've allowed a total of 26 runs, with no more than four runs in any game. In the six losses, they've allowed 50 runs, with at least six runs in five of the six games and at least eight runs four times.
Buschwacked: Michael Busch recorded three hits last night with a RBI and scored two runs. He has hit safely in 10 of his last 12 games and in 13 of his last 16 games, batting .344 (22x64) with five doubles, three homers, 11 RBI and 13 runs scored...Since joining OKC May 17 from Double-A Tulsa, Busch leads the Dodgers with 74 hits, including a team-best 33 extra-base hits and 20 doubles, while his 13 homers, 133 total bases and 49 runs scored are second-most during the span.
Beast Node: Ryan Noda reached base in all five of his plate appearances Tuesday, going 3-for-3 with a double, two walks and a RBI. Over his last five games, Noda is 9-for-18 with two doubles, two homers, eight RBI, four walks and four runs scored...Over his last 13 games, Noda has hit five homers and totaled 17 RBI...Noda's 58 walks overall this season are second-most in the PCL, while his 64 RBI rank ninth.
Walking Papers: The Dodgers tallied five walks Tuesday and lead all Triple-A teams with 514 walks this season. The team has drawn 90 walks across the 16 games since the All-Star Break for an average of 5.63 per game. However, the Dodgers also issued eight walks last night, allowing eight walks for the second time in four games, and have now allowed a Triple-A-leading 514 walks this season...The Dodgers are on pace for both 679 walks drawn and allowed this season, which would shatter the current team single-season records for walks drawn (573) and walks allowed (591).
Around the Horn: Last night snapped a streak of four straight wins in series openers. The Dodgers are 5-3 in Game 2 of a series after losing the series opener (2-2 at home)...Yesterday the Dodgers allowed at least two homers in a third straight game (7 HR) and the team has now allowed at least two homers in 10 of the 16 games since the All-Star Break (24 HR). Over those 16 games, the Dodgers are 6-0 when allowing one or no homers, but 4-6 when allowing two-plus homer with losses in six of seven...The Dodgers are 14-for-the-last-79 with RISP and 16-for-87 (.184) over the last nine games. They've left 38 runners on base over the last four games...Dodgers pitchers recorded 13 strikeouts last night for their sixth double-digit strikeout outing in the last seven games. The team's 80 K's so far in August lead the PCL...In his first game back with OKC after making his Major League debut with the Los Angeles Dodgers Aug. 3, Miguel Vargas recorded his team-leading 34th multi-hit game, going 2-for-5....The Dodgers have been held without a home run in back-to-back games for the first time since July 16-17 and just the third time since May 31-June 2.
