Sacramento River Cats News Release

West Sacramento, Calif. - Home runs by second baseman Isan Díaz and shortstop Arquímedes Gamboa were not enough to overcome a five-run third inning as the Sacramento River Cats (22-33) fell 13-4 in Tuesday's series-opener vs the Reno Aces (30-25).

Díaz, who was selected 70th overall by Arizona in 2014, homered off his former organization to tie the game at one in the second inning. The big fly was Díaz's second in as many games.

The game did not stay tied for long however, as Reno scored five in the third and one in the fourth off right-hander Tristan Beck (0-4) for a commanding 7-1 lead.

Gamboa had a strong day at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a triple, two runs, and a two-run home run which made it 9-4 in the seventh.

Rehabbing Giants outfielder Steven Duggar knocked in a run with an RBI single in the fifth inning. Duggar is 2-for-11 through four rehab games.

Left-hander Michael Plassmeyer (0-6, 7.38) looks to break the River Cats' skid with his first win of the season. He'll take on a Reno TBD at 6:35 p.m. (PT) on Wednesday. Listen to Johnny Doskow call the game online at rivercats.com or on the MiLB First Pitch app.

Additional Notes

Designated hitter Ka'ai Tom went 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored. Tom is 10-for-23 (.435) with six runs, three doubles, two home runs, and nine RBIs in six June games.

Right-hander Mauricio Llovera continued his dominant season for Sacramento with two strikeouts in 2.0 scoreless innings. The 26-year-old has yet to allow a run in 16.0 Triple-A innings, with 22 strikeouts, a 0.75 WHIP, and a .158 opposing batting average.
